The
Olympics: A rich context for language learning Now
that the Olympics are in full swing, there are many ways we can exploit
this relatively safe theme in class. Here are seven suggestions to get
you started:
Students each pick a country (one that wins medals!) and track their progress through the games. They can then make written reports or oral 'newscast updates' for their peers. Students search through the official Olympics site and track the progress of the UAE's participants. Students compare and contrast the fortunes of different nations. Students brainstorm the Olympic events, supplement their list through web searching and then see how many different ways they can classify the sports. Students imagine the UAE hosting the Olympic - venues, logistics, new sports etc. Students choose the sportswoman of the games. Students discuss the paralympics - what they are, the sports included, the success the UAE has had (let them research that!). Hotlink: www.olympics.com |
